Independence Day in Aspen is a day full of festivities that offer something for everyone. From the traditional Buddy Race in the morning to parades, picnics, concerts, and a laser light show, you will surely find something fun to do with family and friends. Plan ahead to visit Aspen for the 4th of July and experience one of the best summer days of the year, all set in the majestic beauty of the Aspen mountains.

4th of July Events & Activities in Aspen

BOOGIE’S BUDDY RACE

Kick off your 4th of July celebration in Aspen with Boogie’s Buddy Race. This family and pet-friendly event include a 5-mile competitive race, a 5K, and a Family and Canine Run/Walk. Not only is it a fun event for all, the race supports the Buddy Program’s four youth programs and services that benefit over 500 youth, families, and volunteers in the community.

KID’S BIKE DECORATING/KIDS’ BIKE PARADE

The annual Kids’ Bike Parade is another fun way to get children involved in the 4th of July celebration. Bring your kids with their bikes and decorate them in patriotic fashion. Decorated bikes can then join the Kids’ Bike Parade to display their festive colors.

4TH OF JULY PARADE

Not to be missed, Aspen’s 4th of July parade is one of the oldest and most well-known 4th of July parades in the country. Line the streets of Aspen’s beautiful downtown core to check out floats from community businesses and organizations along with horses, firetrucks, mascots, and more! This beloved tradition is a community favorite of adults and children alike.

COMMUNITY VILLAGE

A newer tradition and carry-over from COVID, join us as we celebrate the day with a parked car show, live music, and dance. The downtown core features a collection of exhibits from local businesses, non-profits, and communication organizations with booths at participating locations.

ASPEN VALLEY AND SKI CLUB BBQ

Following the parade, AVSC hosts its annual 4th of July BBQ. Enjoy a day of bouncy castles, activities, food from Ajax Tavern, live music, beer, and wine. This fun event is a great way to continue the celebration through the afternoon while eating fantastic food and listening to great music in the beautiful mountain air.

FREE CONCERT AT BENEDICT MUSIC TENT

The Aspen Music Festival and School’s free concert at The Benedict Music Tent at Aspen Meadows is another beloved community tradition. Relax and listen to the AMFS band as they play patriotic music in tribute to the day.
